Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is looking to dip its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project, called the Space Key, is a work that was created in collaboration with a unknown artist. The unique NFT is a tangible item that links to exclusive digital artwork that can be accessed via a QR code on the back. The project is limited and will be auctioned off over the next few weeks.
The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini as part of a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was created into a distinctive artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical object includes an NFT serial code that ties to the digital artwork via QR code on the rear.

NFTs for those who are not familiar they are unique identifiers that are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to an digital asset such as a photograph or video, song or any other kind of record. This allows owners to ensure the authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of their tokens over the internet.
Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will release information about this exciting project. This includes the names of the artists who are unknown and a schedule for auction.
The physical component of Space Key
Following multiple social media posts that tease something space-themed, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has entered the world of tokens that are not fungible (NFT) by launching an exclusive project dubbed Space Key. Developed in collaboration with an unknown artist The NFT is a collector's piece that will be auctioned off in just a few weeks time. The core of the NFT is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of an ongoing research project. The carbon fiber was 3D printed to create the base of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, entirely digital design using an QR code on its backside. Only five Space Keys were produced.
NFTs are unique identifications that can be stored in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain and linked to a digital asset such as images. This is a hot topic for those with more money than they have common sense. It was only an issue of time before automakers decided to take advantage of.
Space Key consists of five units. The components were built using a physical piece of carbon fiber composite, which was sent to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will come with an QR code that will link it to an exclusive digital art work by the same artist. In the coming weeks and days, more details will be revealed, including the name and digital artwork of the artist and how to purchase one of the five Space Keys.
The digital artwork
After months of posts on social media that hint at it, a prestigious car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items which will unlock a special digital art by an unidentified artist. It was created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) The "collector's work" is limited to only five units and will soon be auctioned off.
Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth the Space Key was stamped with a QR code that links it to the digital element of the Space Key.
Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. More than 600 million pixels each of the five images which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.
Oefner used a balloon with a camera that captured each of the individual shots, which were later merged into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world photograph that captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car rising from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there's no precise date or location as of yet.
The auction
Lamborghini the luxury automaker has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the slogan "to the moon". The project was created in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm). The Space Key is an NFT made of composite carbon fiber material that was actually shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes in the year 2019. The actual sample has been reshaped into five unique items that each link to exclusive digital artworks created by an as-yet undisclosed artist via the QR code that is on their backs.
The auctions, which be held between February 1 through February 4, will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, the same amount of time it took for Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. The five NFTs are available for bidding by creating an account online. Each NFT will be sold individually and the winner will receive a digital artwork by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
